Mercedes Benz Museum, Stuttgart
A Digital Journey Through Time
A fascinating project that makes us proud. The Mercedes-Benz brand and its museum take center stage. The Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, which opened in May 2006, is an outstanding example of how history, technology and brand can merge to create an impressive visitor attraction. And we control almost the entire multimedia experience.
Highlights of the Mercedes-Benz Museum:
The unusual structure of the building symbolizes movement and dynamism. This fits perfectly with an automobile manufacturer. Over 160 vehicles and around 1,500 exhibits are presented on nine levels, telling the story of automobile development and the Mercedes-Benz brand. The integration of state-of-the-art media technology ensures an interactive and impressive visitor tour. From over 250 multimedia displays and projections to personalized tours, a seamless and impressive experience is offered.
We have been working closely with the museum’s media control experts for 20 years now. This collaboration has shown how important it is for global brands such as Mercedes-Benz to present their history and heritage. They attach particular importance to state-of-the-art and fascinating presentations. The result is a spectacular museum experience that has gained worldwide recognition.
The museum was not only a milestone for Mercedes-Benz, but also a defining project for vir2store and its engineers. The challenges of content management and media control in such a complex and large-scale project led to the fundamental lead in development. This had a lasting impact on the direction and philosophy of vir2store.
Findings and solutions from the project:
Content-focused approach:
The central insight was that creative content should not be limited by technical restrictions. The technology should serve the creators, not the other way around. This led to the development of vir2cloud, a platform that offers maximum flexibility in content playback. By supporting all common file formats, the tedious conversion or adaptation of media content is no longer necessary.
Platform independence:
With the decision at that time (2004) to rely on the browser as a platform, we established a pioneering technology that combines system independence and user-friendliness.
This browser-based solution made it possible to seamlessly integrate and centrally control a variety of systems, regardless of the underlying operating system.
Reliability on a large scale:
The integration of over 250 media players in the Mercedes-Benz Museum showed how important stability and reliability are in such an extensive project.
vir2store GmbH proved that its platform is a solution that works reliably over the long term and under heavy load, which is essential in an environment with daily visitor traffic.
The project underlined the importance of IT know-how in the multimedia industry and helped vir2store to establish itself as a pioneer in media control. The ten years of experience in the web sector that already existed at the time was used to develop future-proof and innovative solutions.
Conclusion
The Mercedes-Benz Museum was a prime example of the fusion of creativity and technology.
For vir2store, it was not only an exciting challenge, but also the beginning of a new era. The knowledge gained from this project led to significant progress in the development of modern multimedia platforms and established vir2store as one of the leading solutions in the field of media control and content distribution.
